# 1 Debian Documentation Bug

Debian Trixie’s Maxima currently has a bug where documentation cannot be displayed:

Cannot find documentation for `"..."':
missing info file "/usr/share/doc/maxima/info/./maxima.info-3"

Workaround: compile from source. (You do not need to recompile wxMaxima, just ensure your self-compiled Maxima is in PATH.)

For example (newer versions are now available):

sudo apt build-dep maxima
mkdir -p ~/opt/src
cd ~/opt/src
wget https://sourceforge.net/projects/maxima/files/Maxima-source/5.48.1-source/maxima-5.48.1.tar.gz
tar xaf maxima-5.48.1.tar.gz
cd maxima-5.48.1/
./configure --prefix="${HOME}/.local"
make -j "$(nproc)"
make install
cd ~/
PATH="${HOME}/.local/bin:${PATH}" wxmaxima

You might also want to enable SBCL support, I forgot why I did that (maybe performance or some other bug?).
