Interstellar Interference

I've been experimenting with gravity and its chaotic dynamics, both in audio and video. The simulation is of several point masses, which exert gravitational forces upon each other. The visualisation is straightforward enough: some spheres represent the masses, with swooshing vapour trails generated by texture feedback.

The audio is a bit more involved: each mass makes a noise, the sound from each of each pair of masses is ring modulated, with a level determined by the distance between those two masses. As different spheres approach each other in unstable orbits, there is a rise in their sound levels.

Realized in Pd with Gem for video and a custom external in C for the gravity calculations.
